George Park thriller headlines all the Round 7 action

The Bushrangers derby delivered a thrilling finish in the men’s, and Orange consolidated second position in the women’s. Meanwhile, Cowra and Bathurst GIANTS commemorated Sir Doug Nicholls Round on George Park #1 with a ceremony and two strong GIANTS victories.

Women’s Round 5:

Orange Tigers 5.4.34 def Bathurst Bushrangers 2.6.18

The Orange Tigers were too good for an undermanned Bushrangers outfit winning by 16 points. Orange held the Bushrangers goalless and had five individual goal-scorers in the victory. The win puts the Tigers a game clear in second and place them in a strong position to secure the double chance.

Bathurst GIANTS 15.13.103 def Cowra Blues 1.1.7

A six goal to nil opening quarter set the tone as the GIANTS secured a convincing 96 point victory. The GIANTS transitioned forward quickly and had too many options for the Cowra defence to handle. Hailee Provest and Danita Lane kicked four and three goals respectively and the GIANTS finished with six multiple goal scorers.

Men’s Round 7:

Bathurst Bushrangers Rebels 10.9.69 def Bathurst Bushrangers Outlaws 10.7.67

The Bushrangers Outlaws led at every siren except the last as the Rebels erased a 13-point 3/4-time deficit. Matthew Archer booted three goals for the Rebels who go into the halfway point of the season on top of the ladder. For the Outlaws, they drop outside the finals places and continue their dogfight with Dubbo and the GIANTS. The Men’s comp now break until after the long weekend so both teams have plenty of time to recover, and prepare for the push into finals.

Bathurst GIANTS 22.16.148 def Cowra Blues 3.5.28

GIANTS’ Paul Jenkins leapfrogged the injured Bevan Charlton-White in the league goalkicking following an 8-goal haul against Cowra. Jenkins was supported by Emmitt Carr-Smith (4) among 8 other goal scorers. James Kennedy gave the GIANTS regular first use with a dominant display in the ruck whilst Chris Day again did the heavy lifting for Cowra with 3 goals.
