AFL Central West Round 8 Senior Recap

Here are all the results from Round 8 of the AFL Central West Senior Competitions.

Men’s Tier 1

Bathurst Giants 7.6-48 defeat Bathurst Bushrangers 5.11-41

The Bathurst Giants have held onto top spot on the Tier 1 ladder after defeating the Bathurst Bushrangers by seven-points at George Park. It was an entertaining encounter between the two top Tier 1 teams. Both sides had their chances but it was the Giants goal-kicking that helped seal the victory. The win now puts the Giants eight points clear of the Bushrangers and gives the side some breathing room.

Sam Sloan (3) was once again fantastic in front of goal, kicking three goals for the Giants.  Jai Bellamy (2) also had a good day, kicking a double for the Bushrangers.

Dubbo Demons 9.6-60 defeat Orange Tigers 5.5-35

The Dubbo Demons have now won two games in a row after defeating the Orange Tigers by 25-points at Waratah Sports Club. In a hard fought contest between the two sides, the Demons had too much attacking firepower, kicking nine goals to five. Whilst conditions weren’t ideal for the 3 vs 4 encounter, the Dees led at all breaks, on their way to victory. Joseph Hedger (3), Bevan Charlton-White (2) Jayden Wallace (2) and Joshua Anasis (2) all contributed to the win.

The win puts Dubbo level with Orange on the ladder.

Women’s

Bathurst Giants 10.9-69 defeat Bathurst Bushrangers 4.2-26

The Bathurst Giants have stayed undefeated this season after defeating the Bathurst Bushrangers by 43-points at George Park. The win now makes it eight games in a row for the Giants this season, and it doesn’t look like the side will be slowing down anytime soon. The Giants goal kicking was once again on fire, kicking 10 goals to four. The loss now makes it seven in a row for the Bushrangers.

Elise Gullifer (5) was outstanding in front of goal, kicking a bag. Hailee Provest (4) also had a strong day, kicking four goals. Kelsey Richards (3) was the lone multiple goal kicker for the Bushrangers.

Orange Tigers 3.2-20 defeat Dubbo Demons 2.3-15

The Orange Tigers have defeated the Dubbo Demons by five-points in a low scoring encounter at Waratah Sports Club. The Tigers were fantastic in defence, stopping the visitors from scoring any opening half goals. Dubbo fought back after the halftime break, kicking two goals to take the lead at the final change. A fourth quarter goal to the Tigers was all the difference as the Tigers upset another opponent in back-to-back rounds.

Lauren Hazell (2) was the lone multiple goal scorer for the game.

Men’s Tier 2

Bathurst Bushrangers Rebels 3.4-22 defeat Orange Tigers 2.9-21

The Bathurst Bushrangers Rebels have narrowly defeated the Orange Tigers by a single point at George Park. A very scrappy first two quarters saw both sides struggling to score points. Both sides didn’t kick a single goal by halftime, a rare sight. The second half was a different story, as the Rebels managed to kick three goals to two, sealing the win. The win keeps the Rebels at second spot on the Tier 2 ladder.

Cowra Blues 6.5-41 defeat Bathurst Giants 4.3-27

The Cowra Blues have bounced back after their Round 7 loss to the Parkes Panthers with a 14-point win over the Bathurst Giants at Mulyan Oval. Both sides came out strong in the first quarter, with the Bathurst Giants taking a one-point lead into the first break. Cowra fought back in the second quarter, kicking two goals to take the lead into halftime. The Blues were able to hang on for the rest of the game, ultimately kicking six goals to four. The win keeps Cowra knocking on the door of the top two.

Nathan Worth (3), and Thomas Thuaux (2) kicked multiple goals for the Blues, whilst Paul Jenkins (2) kicked a double for the Giants.

Parkes Panthers 9.16-70 defeat Dubbo Demons 1.2-8

The Parkes Panthers came to play Saturday night, overwhelming a traveling Dubbo Demons at North Parkes Oval. The game was the first night game to be played this year, and the Panthers continued to maintain North Parkes Oval as their fortress this year. Dubbo defended strongly, and made the game a contest but simply didn’t have the efficiency inside fifty to trouble the score with regularity. Parkes inaccuracy in front of goal was due to some great pressure by the Demons defenders, particularly after some had already played in Orange earlier that day.

The win keeps the Panthers at top spot on the Tier 2 ladder whilst the Demons sit at seventh.

Mitchell Stubberfield (3) and Braeden Snow (3) had great nights for the Panthers. Jarryd Harrison (2) also got on the scoreboard whilst celebrating senior game #200 on the night.
