Round 6 Preview: Can Dubbo continue their strong home form?

The dust has settled on Round 5 and we now look ahead to what Round 6 of the AFL Central West senior competitions can deliver. Cowra have a tough road trip, up the Mid-Western Highway to take on top-of-the-table Rebels. In another tough road trip, Orange Tigers head to Dubbo looking to avoid back to back losses.

Round 4 Senior Women’s:

Bathurst Bushrangers vs Cowra Blues – George Park #2, 12:30pm

The Bushrangers will be fresh off the bye whilst the Blues are running hot having achieved their first victory of the season. This match shapes as a challenge for the Blues with the Bushrangers showing strong numbers albeit relative inexperience. Having a full bench could allow the Bushrangers to run the game out stronger and take the victory. If Cowra’s defence pressure can lead to their opponent’s inaccuracy as it did last week, then they can be competitive.

Selected teams

Parkes Panthers vs Bathurst GIANTS – NorthParkes Oval, 12:30pm

The GIANTS collected the second win in fine form against Orange and will hope that the weather is kinder to them at NorthParkes Oval. Parkes should be buoyed by some strong inclusions with Eloise Hiller-Stanbrook transferring across during the week. The large NorthParkes Oval tends to make games a lot closer but in this one, the GIANTS should be too good.

Round 6 Senior Men’s:

Bathurst Bushrangers Rebels vs Cowra Blues – George Park #2, 2:30pm

The Rebels should have too much talent for Cowra who are expected to name an undermanned side for this clash. At home, and enjoying the view from the top of the ladder, the Rebels would hope that the result is one which pushes them further ahead. Underestimate Cowra at your peril, as the Blues have shown this year that they can bring the fire when needed. If they can keep the score close early on, their pressure could lead to mistakes and give them a chance.

Selected teams

Parkes Panthers vs Bathurst GIANTS – NorthParkes Oval, 2:30pm

After last week’s performance, the Bathurst GIANTS would go in as favourites against any team they face. Unfortunately for the winless Panthers, they host the GIANTS this week. This will be a tough match to change that form however a competitive outing will assist in strengthening team morale and over time, improve their results.

Selected teams

Dubbo Demons vs Orange Tigers – South Dubbo Oval, 2:30pm

Losing in a George Park thriller last week, back at home, the Demons will be tough to beat. Orange don’t usually lose two in a row so this shapes as a blockbuster encounter. A loss shouldn’t push the Tigers lower than their current second place, though crucially, it could create a four team logjam from second to fifth on 16 points. This is must-win for the Demons to keep with the top four and at home, will have the slight advantage.
