Round 5 Preview: Can the travelling sides topple their rivals again?
Last week, the away side won four of the five matches. Will there be any upsets this week to continue the trend? In the men’s competition, the Bushrangers Outlaws vs Dubbo Demons shapes as the match of the round whilst the top two sides Orange Tigers and Bathurst GIANTS face off in the women’s.
Round 3 Senior Women’s
Orange Tigers vs Bathurst GIANTS – Waratah’s Orange, 12:30pm
First vs second. That’s all that needs to be said to encourage everyone to head out to Waratahs this weekend. Both teams have a win and a bye this season and have the firepower up forward to kick a big score. With the women’s competition shaping to be very close this season, early wins will be crucial.

Parkes Panthers vs Cowra Blues – NorthParkes Oval Parkes, 12:30pm
The Panthers were too strong for Cowra in Round 1 and the two sides have an early rematch just a fortnight later. Parkes have started win, loss, but at home, they should have a full side and expect a win. Meanwhile, if Cowra can bring a full strength side, they can certainly challenge teams and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Although suffering a tough loss to the Tigers last week, Cowra have plenty of talented youth coming through the ranks and on the wide open spaces of NorthParkes oval, could be a handful for the Panthers.

Round 5 Senior Men’s
Bathurst Bushrangers Rebels vs Parkes Panthers – George Park #2 Bathurst, 12:00pm
Bushrangers Rebels look to consolidate second spot on the AFL CW ladder this week taking on the winless Parkes Panthers. With the home crowd behind them, and form on their side, the Rebels should be too strong. However, if in-form Panther Aaron Halls can get his team off to a good start, the Panthers could make things tough. Scott Brown returns from GIANTS Academy and NEAFL duties and bolsters the Rebels half back line for the clash.

Bathurst Bushrangers Outlaws vs Dubbo Demons – George Park #2 Bathurst, 2:30pm
Last week’s win against the GIANTS may prove to be vital for the Demons as they travel to Bathurst to take on the Outlaws. Although having two lean rounds, last week’s victory in Parkes will give the Outlaws confidence heading into the clash. Dubbo have proven to be a strong side this year, and a second win against a Bathurst rival will strengthen their finals football claims. For the Outlaws, goals from their midfield will be crucial, and whilst the Demons have a powerful forward line goals might be hard to come by in this one.

Orange Tigers vs Bathurst GIANTS – Waratah’s Orange, 2:30pm
Top of the table and unbeaten, the Tigers return home to take on Bathurst GIANTS. Shaping as a huge clash for both sides, the Tigers look to remain one game clear whilst the GIANTS want a win to stay in touch with the top four. A rematch of the 2018 Preliminary Final, Tigers vs GIANTS games tend to be close, and this should be no exception. Although set to be a cold day two blockbuster matches await for those who brave the conditions so rug-up, and head out to Waratah’s.
