2020 AFL Central West fixtures released

Footy is set to make its triumphant return to NSW’s Central West when the 2020 season gets underway on Saturday, 18 July.

AFL Central West are excited to announce the fixtures have now been set for the upcoming, shorter and dynamic nine round season.

In 2020, there will be 31 teams competing in the AFL Central West competitions – 17 junior teams, 5 women’s and 9 men’s – across 7 divisions.

The Senior Women’s competition will hit the ground running in Round 1 when the Bathurst GIANTS look to maintain their premiership winning form against the Bathurst Bushrangers in the 2019 Grand Final rematch. Round 1 will also see the Dubbo Demons re-join the Senior Women’s competition after sitting out the 2019 season. The Demon’s will get their first taste of football against the Cowra Blues in Round 1.

A Round 2 match up in the Men’s competition will see the Orange Tigers seeking revenge against the Bathurst Bushrangers in 2019 Grand Final replay.

A huge step forward for the Men’s competition in 2020 is the return of the Second Tier division for the first time since 2015. The Second Tier division provides a suitable environment for new players looking to give Australian Football a try for the first time. It also serves as a great platform for Junior players to further develop as they transition into senior footy.

The Junior competitions continue to grow in 2020 with the Under 17’s welcoming the Bathurst Bushrangers and Cowra Blues into their competition.

The Cowra Blues will be eager to get on the field in Round 1 as they look flip the script on the reigning Premiers Orange Tigers in the Under 14s Grand Final rematch.

AFL Greater Western Sydney Regional Manager, Rebecca Marshall can’t wait for the season to get underway.

“I am extremely pleased about what we have been able to achieve for the 2020 AFL Central West competition. The clubs and league have worked hard under very different circumstances to deliver five new teams across both Senior & Junior competitions in 2020. AFL in the Central West is growing and I cannot wait for that first bounce in 7 days time”
