AFL Central West Round 6 Preview
AFL Central West Round 6 Preview
Round 6 of the 2021 AFL Central West Senior Competition will be held across Geroge Park, and Waratah Sports Club on Saturday 5 June. AFL Central West preview all the action, including this week’s Match of the Round between the Tier 2 Bathurst Bushrangers Rebels and Dubbo Demons. All the action begins at 11am, and with COVID restrictions easing slightly from the 2020 season, fans are welcome to come down, and cheer on their side!
Men’s Tier 1
Bathurst Giants vs Dubbo Demons
Time: 2:15pm
Ground: George Park #1
Comments: The Demons will be traveling to Bathurst looking to shake off last weekend’s 42-point loss against the Bushrangers. The Giants are coming off a tight nine point win over the Tigers. Bathurst will be aiming to repeat their opening Round 1 performance, which saw the hosts comfortably defeat the Demons by 103-points. Our player to watch is Sam Sloan, as the Giants forward kicked three goals last weekend against the Tigers.
Excitingly, Saturday’s match will see the Bathurst Giants wearing their commemorative guernsey in celebration of Sir Doug Nicholls Round. Whilst the match begins at 2:15pm, the pre-match formalities are not to be missed. The Giants will present the Women’s Best on Ground, then Josh Sly designer of the guernsey will share the story behind the design.
Bathurst Bushrangers vs Orange Tigers
Time: 2:15pm
Ground: George Park #2
Comments: In the other Tier 1 game this weekend, the Bushrangers will be hosting the Tigers at George Park. The Bushrangers are coming off a 42-point win over the Demons whilst the Tigers will be looking to bounce back having let four points slip away against the Giants. The last time these two sides played each other was in Round 1, which saw the Bushrangers come away with the victory. Todd Fagan will be the one to watch this weekend, as the Tigers forward currently leads the rest of the competition in goals scored. If he can get going, then the Tigers are in with a chance.
Women’s
Bathurst Giants vs Dubbo Demons
Time: 12:30pm
Ground: George Park #1
Comments: The Giants will look to keep their undefeated streak going when they host the Demons at George Park. The Demons have looked strong in the past few weeks, remaining undefeated at home as the side defeated the Bushrangers by 18-points. The Giants have remained consistent, as the side defeated the Orange Tigers by 39-points last weekend. The last time the two sides clashed, the Giants got the win, defeating the Demons by 39-points. Our two players to watch are Lauren Hazell and Olivia Johnston, as both forwards lead the rest of the competition in goals scored.
Bathurst Bushrangers vs Orange Tigers
Time: 12:30pm
Ground: George Park #2
Comments: The Tigers travel to Bathurst this weekend looking for their first win of the season. Despite the 39-point loss last weekend against the Giants, the visitors will look to build on their excellent first half, which saw the Tigers only trailing by three-points at the break. The Bushrangers will be looking for a bounce back performance after last weekend’s 18-point loss against the Dees in Dubbo. Despite a competitive performance from the Bushrangers, they couldn’t contain the Demons in the second half, conceding six goals to see the hosts run away with the result. The Bushrangers currently have bragging rights between the two sides, with a 52-point victory in Round 1 and Kelsey Richards – fresh off booting two majors against the Dees – is our player to watch.
Men’s Tier 2
Bathurst Giants vs Bathurst Bushrangers Outlaws
Time: 11am
Ground: George Park #1
Comments: Bathurst derbies are always fun, and for the first time, the Bathurst Giants host local rivals Bushrangers Outlaws. Both sides currently find themselves stuck to the bottom of the ladder, with one victory apiece in five rounds. The visitors will be looking for some continuity in their line-up, having used 37 players already this season. Meanwhile if star forward Jordan Longmore (seven goals in two matches) gets going, his Giants could pile on the pressure.
The match will also see the Yandle family line up together for the first time, with father Peter named for his first match since 2014, alongside sons Jayden and Zac. Should the selected teams not lie, this will be a fantastic experience for the three Giants, making them our players to watch.
Bathurst Bushrangers Rebels vs Dubbo Demons (Match of the Round)
Time: 11am
Ground: George Park #2
Comments: In the Match of the Round, the Bathurst Bushrangers Rebels play host to the Dubbo Demons. The Rebels are coming off the back of a 12-point defeat to the Tigers, whilst the Dees won via forfeit to Cowra. The Rebels will be looking for a win this weekend to hold onto third place. A win for Dubbo will help the side move up and keep in touch of the top three.
These two sides have played each other previously this season. In the Round 3 contest, the Rebels got the win, defeating the Demons by 47-points in Dubbo. Our player to watch this weekend is Jai Bellamy. The Rebels forward currently leads his side in goals scored and will be looking for a big day out against the Dees.

Orange Tigers vs Parkes Panthers
Time: 11am
Ground: Waratah Sports Club
Comments: Its been a long time since Round 1, and the Orange Tigers are showing their improvement after the first weekend loss to Bushrangers Outlaws. They are unbeaten in their past three, and whilst not as convincingly as Saturday’s opponents, have a chance to spoil the Panther party. For the travelling Panthers, can they continue their dominant start to 2021? Defensively, they’ve been outstanding, conceding just four points across the opening five rounds (including 1 bye, 1 match-abandoned). Offensively, they are a powerhouse, having scored 90-points more than the next best Rebels (in two fewer matches). Mitch Stubberfield is the player to watch, one of multiple Panthers hoping for a big match on Saturday.
