AFL Central West Round 9 Recap
Here are all the results from Round 9 of the AFL Central West Senior Competitions.
Men’s Tier 1
Dubbo Demons 15.9-99 defeat Bathurst Giants 10.8-68
The Dubbo Demons have continued their great recent run of form and upset the Tier 1 leaders Bathurst Giants by 31-points at South Dubbo Oval. The Demons came out of the gates early determined to make a statement, and led the Giants five-goals to one at the first break. The second quarter was much the same, as the Demons kicked another six-goals to put their side up by 41-points at the halftime break. The Giants fought back in the second half, outscoring the Demons six-goals to four but it wasn’t enough, with the Demons holding on to secure the win.
Bevan Charlton-White (5) had an outstanding day for the hosts, kicking a bag. Dylan Fairall (2), Isaac Heath (2), and Mitch Russo (2) each kicked a double. Sam Sloan (4), and Leigh Monaghan had a productive day for the visitors, with Benjamin Matthews (2) also kicking a couple.
Bathurst Bushrangers 18.9-117 defeat Orange Tigers 5.9-39
The Bathurst Bushrangers have narrowed the gap to first placed Bathurst Giants with a convincing 78-point win at Waratah Sports Club. The Tigers had no answers for a dominant Bushrangers side, with the visitors enjoying plenty of opportunities at goal. The Tigers struggled early, which seemed to set the tone for the afternoon, with the Bushrangers outscoring the hosts 18-goals to five. The win now puts the Bushrangers within four points of the leading Bathurst Giants.
Scott Jablonskis (4), and Matthew Archer (3) had a great afternoon for the visitors. Peter Grundy (2), Riley Holland (2), and Grady Dean Tapping (2) also each kicked a double. For the hosts, Callan Hunt (2) was the lone multiple goal scorer.
Women’s
Bathurst Giants 10.8-68 defeat Dubbo Demons 2.1-13
The Bathurst Giants have shown no signs of slowing down, defeating the Dubbo Demons by 55-points at South Dubbo Oval. The Demons fought early, keeping within seven-points at halftime. The visitors kicked into another gear after the break, eventually outscoring the hosts 10-goals to two. The win keeps the Giants side undefeated so far, whilst also giving the Giants plenty of breathing room on the ladder, sitting 16-points clear of second place Dubbo.
Olivia Johnston (2), Kaitlyn Kennedy (2), Hailee Provest, (2), and Zoe Peters (2) each kicked a double for the visitors.
Orange Tigers 3.7-25 defeat Bathurst Bushrangers 1.2-8
The Orange Tigers have now won two in a row – and three of their past four matches – after defeating the Bathurst Bushrangers in the Match of the Round. In a fairly low scoring game at Waratah Sports Club, the Tigers enjoyed plenty of opportunities in the first three quarters, but were unable to covert them into goals. A three-goal outburst in the fourth sealed the game for the Tigers, with the hosts outscoring the Bushrangers three-goals to one. The win now puts the Tigers eight points clear of the Bushrangers for third spot, making finals footy a big possibility for the Orange based side.
Men’s Tier 2
Cowra Blues 18.15-123 defeat Bathurst Bushrangers Rebels 2.0-12
The Cowra Blues have put on a dominant performance defeating the Bathurst Bushrangers Rebels by 111-points at George Park. The Blues looked unstoppable, outscoring the Rebels 10-goals to one by halftime. There were no signs of slowing down however, as the Blues made a statement kicking another eight-goals by full time. The win now puts the visitors into second place on the Tier 2 ladder, with the Rebels dropping to third.
Nathan Worth (10) had an outstanding game, becoming the first senior player to boot double digit goals in a match this season. Caleb Worth (4) also had a great game, kicking four goals.
Dubbo Demons 13.6-84 defeat Bathurst Giants 6.8-44
The Dubbo Demons have defeated the Bathurst Giants by 40-points at South Dubbo Oval. In an entertaining encounter, the Demons led the Giants by eight-points at half time. After the break however, the hosts flicked a switch and kicked nine goals in the second half to outscore the visitors 13-goals to six. The win now puts the Demons at fifth on the Tier 2 ladder, whilst the Giants stay at sixth.
Bailey Delaney (6) had a great game for the Demons, kicking a bag. Harley Bye (3), and Trevor Dutschke (2) also kicked multiple goals for the hosts. Christopher Smart (3) was the lone multiple goal scorer for the Giants, kicking three goals for the morning.
Bathurst Bushrangers Outlaws 8.9-57 defeat Orange Tigers 2.6-18
The Bathurst Bushrangers Outlaws have continued their rapid improvement this year, defeating the Orange Tigers by 39-points at Waratah Sports Club. The Outlaws had a great first two quarters, outscoring the Tigers five-goals to one. The second half was fairly back and forth, with both sides getting their chances at goal. It was the visitors who took home the win however, kicking eight-goals to two over the hosts. The win puts the Outlaws on 24 points on the Tier 2 ladder, the same as the Bushrangers Rebels and Blues sides.
Brian Matheson (2), Anthony Fisher (2), and Luc Fenton (2) each kicked multiple goals for the Outlaws.
