Eagles set to fly North in June for representative series
Fresh off celebrating the AFL Central West Women’s Team of the Decade last season, representative football will return for the Central West Eagles in 2025.
Venturing to the North West of NSW, the Eagles women’s side will play two reduced length matches against the AFL North West NSW Blue Heelers and AFL North Coast Force on June 28.
With no senior representative football since a 23-point defeat to AFL Sapphire Coast in 2021, the opportunity to test the region’s best is a great reward for these talented players.
Community Football & Competition Manager for AFL Central West, Casey White, said that these matches will be a great challenge for the squad.
“We’ve been fortunate that some of the league’s players have been able to combine and play together previously at events such as the Queanbeyan Cup, but this will be a genuine representative opportunity against high quality players.”
“After celebrating ten years of women’s footy in 2024, we are thrilled that the Northern NSW leagues have welcomed our competition into their representative program.”
“There is no shortage of talented footballers in our women’s competition, and whilst it will no doubt be two difficult games, it’s exciting to see a return to representative football.”
Coaching expressions of interest have just closed with player trials and training schedules to be confirmed closer to Round 1.
At this stage, there will not be any men’s representative football, and the league will continue to work alongside the Northern competitions to have the men included in any future years’ planning.
Junior representative football is still being planned, with matches likely to be played during the July school holidays.
